Hello beautiful people! Welcome to my very first documented Brooklyn experiment. I'm so happy you found your way here and I do hope you'll stay. Feel free to kick off your shoes and make yourself comfortable. As you do, allow me to briefly introduce myself and the life I am currently living.
Well for starters, my name is Jen and I am 27 years old. As I'm sure you could guess, I live in the fabulous (and my most favorite) borough of NYC, known as Brooklyn. I live with my boyfriend, Andy and our recently adopted mini-pig, Penelope Lane. Yeah, you read that right, a mini-pig. We call her, "Penny Lane" for short and she is our giant, well, "mini" giant bundle of joy. The three of us live together in a hip little neighborhood of Brooklyn called Fort Greene, and we are two very happy people and one very happy pig.
I started this blog in 2011 when Andy and I moved into our first apartment - the one I like to call, "the railroad" As soon as we moved in, I desperately wanted to make it our own, but quickly realized we didn't have the budget for what my design eyes coveted - a combination of mid-century modern, vintage, rustic and industrial all mixed into one. It wasn't long before I had come to terms with the fact that if I wanted something a certain way (and I always do) I was going to have to do it myself, and thus the experiments began. Let's just say, "the railroad" jumpstarted my love for DIY and since then I have become legitimately obsessed with doing home projects, while Andy has grown to be equally supportive. Thank god. Now we are living in our second place together (a.k.a. "the cookie cutter") and we have barely begun to tackle the blank canvas that is before us. So bring on the flea markets, the craigslist listings and the DIY projects because it's about to get real fancy up in here.
But as much as the BK Experiment is about our home makeover, it's bound to take it's twists and turns covering lots of randomness, including (but not limited to) our far away travels and all of our miss piggie adventures. All in all, I hope this blog keeps everyone we love in the loop with what we are doing while allowing us to document everything we learn along the way. Lucky for me, Andy is quite the handy man and Penelope has pretty great taste too.
Wish us luck!
